A young and modern choir, Belcanto enjoys good music, loves concerts, tours, and everything which today is typical of a lively choir.
Since its founding in 1983 Belcanto Choir has developed into one of the most popular choirs in the old university town Goettingen, Germany. It features several choir groups such as the show choir and a concert choir, which recruit its members from choirschoolgroups.
Led by it´s conductor and music-teacher Torsten Derlin, Belcanto performed in many cities throughout Europe and the US. Beside regular appearances Derlin and his choirs
had some memorable highlights such as concerts or churchservices at Notre Dame, Paris, the cathedral of Salzburg, Austria, Chrystal Cathedral, Los Angeles. There even were “highflight-concerts”
aboard planes above the Atlantic ocean, concerts on a Mississippi-steamboat, a performance at Disneyland, California, “highrise-performances” on the top of some of the highest buildings of the
world, the Sears-Tower in Chicago, the Empire State Building in New York City and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.
“Der Chor Belcanto” takes pride in an extensive repertory; it´s specialit, however, are it´s choirshows, small programms with defined themes. Popular are the “Belcanto Shanty- and Folkshow”, the “Belcanto Musical Journey”, and the “Belcanto Christmas Show”. However, besides all this there is enough time devoted to classical secular and church-music. On concerttours, especially, church concerts and services belong to the regular tasks of the choir.
